Doorway page
March 24, 2006
Doorway page: A webpage that is specifically designed to appear highly in SERPs for a particular term. The page is then a doorway by which the visitor is directed to the rest of the site’s content. Doorway pages may be categorized as a spamming technique by all major search engines if the doorway page does not provide valuable content to the user or misrepresents the information that will appear on the page (see cloaking). The website owner creates pages containing keywords which are shown to the search engines for ranking purposes. These pages are not shown to the visitors; instead they receive different content. Current search engine algorithms diminish the value of these pages. Not to be confused with Landing pages, which are designed for Pay-per-click campaigns.
