March 14, 2006

Meta Tags: Information placed in HTML tags (within the head section) that is that is passed to browsers and other software, but not seen by site visitors.

A few examples of meta tags are: title, keywords, author, language.

Search engines deprecated the importance of (or do not even utilize) many meta tags besides the “title” tag, due to misuse by Webmasters in the late 1990s.
