Directories we took a shinin to

These are the easiest links to obtain that still have real value. Although their importance has slightly diminished as Search Engines rose in power, directories do still play an important role in the SEO process. Not much of our traffic will come from directories, but the traffic that they do provide will be highly targeted. Also, many directories are looked well upon by the major search engines as centers for resources. Getting listed within these directories can provide our site with quality inbound links that will raise our ranking within the competition for our keywords. We should be able to collect anywhere from 80-150 backlinks from directories to give our link building campaign a boost.
Below are a few of the directories that we have submitted to. You can learn about more directories of value, plus tons of great linking tips in our forthcoming book.
Old-school directories receive extra special treatment from Google. The following is an older site with excellent information and plenty of incoming links from major authority sites (though the navigation is a bit perplexing). I encourage you to check it out. http://www.ecominfocenter.com/

Local Directories
Local Directories are an excellent way to get tied in thematically to your geographic region. For example I may have a Direct mail company that accepts clients nationally. If I get tied into some local and statewide sites, my site is far more likely to show up if someone enters my company name, plus the local area. It is a bit easier to close those sales anyway, since the customer gets to meet us and look us in the eye.
An example is charmingtowns.com – a great resource for… you guessed it – the charming towns in South Carolina. Not only did this site provide me with a free link, but more importantly it has provided my wife and I with some great ideas for some weekend activities.
These resources are often run by persons particularly dedicated to their field of knowledge so take advantage of their specialized expertise and be patient when waiting for a link – most of these sites do not churn much revenue.
A great place to find these local directories and resources is in the Open Directory Project, a wonderful open-source (free) global directory.
